Panthers announce first wave of cuts

CHARLOTTE -- The Panthers have made their first round of cuts ahead of Saturday's 53-man roster deadline.

Seventeen players have been let go, including the termination of vested veteran running back Kenjon Barner, originally a Panthers' draft choice in 2013 who came back to Carolina after three seasons with the Eagles.

The Panthers, who have been hit hard by injuries along the offensive line, also parted ways with reserve offensive tackles Blaine Clausell and Adam Bisnowaty. That leaves Matt Kalil, Daryl Williams, Taylor Moton and Jeremiah Sirles as the only tackles on the roster, and Moton is the only one who hasn't suffered an injury in the preseason. It's worth noting that guard Dorian Johnson has been working at tackle.

Below is a complete list of the players who were waived.

  • DT Tracy Sprinkle
  • DE Sterling Bailey
  • LB Richie Brown
  • LB Chris Frey
  • CB LaDarius Gunter
  • S Demetrious Cox
  • CB Alex Carter
  • OT Blaine Clausell
  • G Norman Price
  • TE Cam Serigne
  • WR Rasheed Bailey
  • WR Bug Howard
  • G Quinterrius Eatmon
  • OT Adam Bisnowaty
  • TE Evan Baylis
  • TE Jason Reese
