Dean Petzing enters his second season with Carolina as an offensive quality control coach, his second in the NFL after coaching for 12 years in the collegiate ranks.
During Petzing's first season in Carolina (2024), the offense increased their passing touchdowns by nine, tied for the fifth-largest increase in the league. On the ground, the Panthers were tied for eighth in the league in rushing touchdowns (18), tied for ninth in rushes of 20+ yards (13), ranked 10th in rushing yards per attempt (4.58) and 11th in rushing yards before contact (697).
In his final season at LSU (2023), Petzing worked directly with quarterback Jayden Daniels during his Heisman winning campaign, orchestrating a Tigers offense that led the nation in scoring (45.5) and total offense (543.5). That season, Daniels set a school record for rushing yards by a quarterback for a career and season (1,134). In Petzing's two seasons with the team, the Tigers won 20 games, captured the SEC Western Division (2022), and claimed two bowl victories (Citrus and ReliaQuest).
Prior to joining LSU's coaching staff, Petzing spent three seasons at Notre Dame (2019-21), serving in various offensive roles. He began as a graduate assistant, focusing on the offensive line (2019), before becoming an analyst with a focus on the tight end position in 2020. In his final year with the Fighting Irish, he shifted to working with the quarterbacks as an analyst.
Petzing began his coaching career as a student assistant at his alma mater, St. Lawrence University (2012-13), before coaching at Yale (2014), Villanova (2015), Ball State (2016) and Maine (2017-18), where the Black Bears won the Colonial Athletic Association championship.
A native of Wellesley, Massachusetts, Petzing graduated from St. Lawrence in 2014 with a double major in mathematics and economics, while earning a minor in statistics. His brother, Drew, serves as the offensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals.
