Rob Moore is in his second season with the Carolina Panthers as wide receivers coach. After a 12-year career as an NFL wide receiver (1990-2001), Moore has coached the position in the league since 2014.
In his first season with Carolina in 2024, the Panthers were the only team with two players in the top 10 in receiving yards among rookies: Xavier Legette (497) and Jalen Coker (478). Under Moore's guidance and development, undrafted rookie Jalen Coker was the only player in the top 10 among rookies who was not drafted within the first 34 picks of the 2024 NFL Draft. Coker also led all undrafted rookies in the NFL in catches (32), receiving yards (478), and receiving touchdowns (two), setting franchise records for an undrafted rookie in those categories.
Working with the Titans' wide receivers for six seasons (2018-23), Moore saw four different receivers lead the team in receiving yards. Among the leaders, Corey Davis posted his two best seasons under Moore: 2018, when he more than doubled his receiving yards from his rookie year, and 2020, when he posted career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. A.J. Brown, a second-round pick in 2019, posted 2,995 yards in his three seasons (2019-21), including a pair of 1,000-yard efforts over his first two years. Brown's 24 receiving touchdowns in that span were a top-10 mark in the league. In Moore's final season in Tennessee (2023), veteran DeAndre Hopkins posted 1,057 yards, the most he's had in a season since 2020.
Prior to arriving in Tennessee, Moore spent three seasons (2015-17) as the wide receivers coach for the Oakland Raiders. He worked with Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, who combined for 435 receptions, 5,446 receiving yards, 43 touchdowns, and 17 100-yard games during their three seasons together. In 2016, Cooper (1,153 yards) and Crabtree (1,003) became the first pair of Raiders wide receivers to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in the same season since 2001. Cooper became only the third player in NFL history at the time to surpass 1,000 receiving yards and 70 receptions in each of his first two seasons (2015–16), joining Odell Beckham Jr. and Marques Colston.
Rob Moore joined the Bills in 2014, his first coaching position in the NFL. In Buffalo, he helped mentor a youthful wide receiving corps whose top three wide receivers had two or fewer years of experience. Rookie Sammy Watkins set team rookie records for receptions and yards, while second-year receivers Robert Woods and Chris Hogan both set career highs at the time.
As wide receivers coach for four years at his alma mater Syracuse (2010-13), Moore helped the Orange to three bowl victories. Under his tutelage, wide receiver Alec Lemon left school as the Orange's all-time leader in receptions (201) and second in receiving yards (1,780).
Moore began his coaching career at Montclair (N.J.) HS from 2002- 03, working with wide receivers, and in 2009, he became the wide receivers coach for Phoenix Junior College. He also spent time working as a consultant for Protect Management and Athlete's Performance, training athletes for the NFL Draft, including future draft picks Robert Meachem, Dwayne Bowe, Vernon Davis, Golden Tate and Arrelious Benn.
Moore played 12 years as a wide receiver in the NFL after being selected by the New York Jets in the first round of the 1990 Supplemental Draft. He spent five seasons with the New York Jets (1990-94) and seven years with the Arizona Cardinals (1995-2001). His career totals included 153 games with 146 starts, 628 receptions, 9,368 receiving yards and 49 touchdowns. He was named to the Pro Bowl following the 1994 and 1997 campaigns, the latter of which he led the NFL with 1,584 receiving yards en route to being named All-Pro.
A native of Hempstead, New York, Moore played collegiately at Syracuse from 1987-89, starting all three seasons. Despite playing only three seasons with the Orange, he remains the school's all-time leader in career receiving touchdowns with 22. He also left as the all-time leader in receiving yards with 2,122, a record that now ranks fifth. He went to three consecutive bowl games, including the Sugar Bowl victory during Syracuse's undefeated (11-0-1) season in 1987. In 1999, he was named to Syracuse's All-Century Team.
He is married to Candice and has five children—son Satchel and daughters Dakota, Savoy, Meadow and Charlie.
