CHARLOTTE — The Panthers took their first step toward the 53-man roster limit by parting ways with 18 players on Monday.
That leaves 19 moves to be made by Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline.
The most experienced player on Monday's list was kicker Matthew Wright, who was released.
That leaves rookie Ryan Fitzgerald as the only kicker on the roster, though that's not the same thing as having the job secured, as coach Dave Canales said last week they'd look at all the available kickers.
The other 17 players were waived, and will need to pass through waivers before they could sign to any team's practice squad.
Quarterback Jack Plummer, who was on the practice squad most of last year until he was called up to the 53-man roster for the final two weeks, was among those released.
They also waived quarterback Bryce Perkins, after he filled in for the preseason finale, leaving them with just starter Bryce Young and backup Andy Dalton.
