CHARLOTTE -- The Panthers have claimed running back Kenjon Barner off waivers after waiving cornerback Josh Hawkins.

Barner played five games with the New England Patriots this season, totaling 71 rushing yards on 19 carries. He was with the Panthers throughout the 2018 training camp and preseason before being released on cutdown day.

Barner was signed by Carolina this past spring after winning a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2017. He played in 13 games with one start for Philadelphia last season, rushing for 57 yards on 16 attempts. He had a career-best 129 yards rushing with two touchdowns for Philadelphia in 2016.

A sixth-round draft pick by the Panthers in 2013, Barner played in eight games for Carolina in his rookie season, totaling six carries. Barner played collegiately at Oregon, where he finished his career ranked second in school history with 3,623 rushing yards.
