Panthers make a flurry of moves heading into Week 5

David Moore

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers placed a pair of players on injured reserve and made a number of additions to the roster on Wednesday as part of a busy week of moves.

The team placed right guard Chandler Zavala and wide receiver David Moore on IR after they sustained injuries during last week's loss at New England.

Zavala left with a knee injury, and Moore with an elbow injury. By going on IR, they'll be out for at least the next four weeks.

They signed three players to the active roster, promoting running back DeeJay Dallas and safety Trevian Thomas from the practice squad. Dallas is a familiar face to this coaching staff from his time with the Seahawks, and he arrived at the start of the regular season. Thomas, an undrafted rookie from Arkansas State, was here throughout the offseason and was released in cuts to the initial 53 before signing back to the practice squad.

They also signed offensive lineman Jake Curhan off the Cardinals' practice squad.

The 27-year-old Curhan spent three years with the Seahawks (2021-23), and was with the Bears last season. He was in camp with the Cardinals this year. In five seasons, he's appeared in 40 games with 11 starts. He gives them tackle depth with Brady Christensen expected to move into the lineup at right guard.

Also on Wednesday, the team opened the 21-day window for defensive end LaBryan Ray to return to practice.

Ray, who has been here the last two seasons with 33 appearances and 10 starts, is coming back from a high ankle sprain that landed him on IR before the start of the season. He has three weeks to practice and can be activated at any time.

The Carolina Panthers hold joint practice with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2025 at Bank Of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC.

The Panthers also added three players to the practice squad, signing veteran offensive lineman Saahdiq Charles, running back Anthony Tyus III, and offensive lineman Aiden Williams.

Charles, who played on LSU's national championship team in 2019, spent his first four years in Washington, appearing in 35 games with 18 starts. He was signed by the Titans in 2024 but retired, and came back and was in camp with the Cowboys this offseason.

The moves leave them with one open spot on the active roster, and a full practice squad of 17.

Tyus is an undrafted rookie from Ohio University who has spent time with the Lions and Seahawks this offseason. Williams, an undrafted rookie from Minnesota-Duluth, was in camp with the Steelers this summer and was briefly on their practice squad.
