Panthers re-sign tight end Colin Thompson

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers on Monday re-signed tight end Colin Thompson to their active roster.

Thompson was among the cuts when Carolina trimmed down to 53 players on Saturday. By re-signing him, the Panthers now have three tight ends on the active roster. Having more depth at the position could be significant, given Ian Thomas has been dealing with a toe injury. But head coach Matt Rhule has said that Thomas' injury isn't serious.

Thompson played under Rhule at Temple. He's previously spent time with the Giants and Bears and the Birmingham Iron of the AAF and the Tamps Bay Vipers of the XFL.

As a corresponding roster move, the Panthers placed wide receiver Keith Kirkwood on the reserve/injured list.
