Sam Darnold designated to return from IR

The team made a number of moves prior to Back Together Saturday, adding some depth at positions of need on both sides of the ball.

The team signed former Buccaneers receiver and return man Deven Thompkins on Thursday, adding another player with familiarity with Dave Canales and his offensive staff.

Cornerback Chau Smith-Wade and wide receiver Jalen Coker were activated Tuesday afternoon, in advance of the first day of practice on Wednesday.

Rookie running back Jonathon Brooks was placed on the active/non-football injury list, while four other players were placed on the active/physically unable to perform list.

The team signed former Dolphins wideout Daewood Davis after a recent workout. He played in the UFL this spring.

The Panthers added an outside linebacker and a defensive lineman, adding some experienced depth after last weekend's rookie minicamp.

The team made a series of roster moves on Friday before rookie minicamp, releasing seven players and signing 19 undrafted rookie free agents.

The Panthers signed all seven of their draft picks to contracts, ahead of rookie minicamp. 

The former Seahawks first rounder adds to the backfield depth, and provides familiarity with head coach Dave Canales.

The move secures the 2021 first-rounder through the 2025 season, keeping the South Carolina standout home. 

The veteran linebacker adds some depth on special teams, after impressing in that area in a half-season here last year.

The veteran pass-rusher adds to a young group, and gives the Panthers a proven commodity at a position of need.
