Tommy Tremble activated from physically unable to perform list

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers are getting a key part back in time for the start of the regular season.

The Panthers activated tight end Tommy Tremble from the active/physically unable to perform list on Thursday.

Tremble won't play tonight in the preseason finale against the Steelers, but he's now eligible to practice fully. Head coach Dave Canales said this week that the hope is that Tremble will be ready to play in the regular season opener.

The 25-year-old tight end was re-signed this offseason, one of four members of the draft class of 2021 to sign second contracts (along with Jaycee Horn, Brady Christensen, and Chuba Hubbard).

Tremble caught 23 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns last year, including the memorable no-look job from Bryce Young in the finale at Atlanta.

He had back surgery in May.

"Tommy is doing great," Canales said Tuesday. "He's running full speed, he's looking towards just trying to get some more physical contact and get that adaptation part, before we can fully clear him.

"He's had no setbacks, and so we're excited to get Tommy back on the field doing something real soon."
