CHARLOTTE – Wide receiver Brenton Bersin is back on the active roster.

With veteran Jerricho Cotchery out for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints because of a high ankle sprain, Bersin has been signed off the practice squad.

To make room on the 53-man roster roster, the Panthers waived third-year tight end Brandon Williams, who has four career catches for 44 yards. Carolina will continue to lean on tight ends Greg Olsen and Ed Dickson, and Richie Brockel is set to return from a shoulder injury that sidelined him for the first two games.

Bersin is a steady possession receiver who brings depth and experience to Carolina's wide receiver corps. He was let go in the final roster cutdown before being signed to the Panthers' practice squad, where he also spent the entire 2013 season.

Last year, Bersin played in 15 games with one start, recording 13 receptions for 151 yards and one touchdown.
