Dave Canales: Bryce Young doing more, still day-to-day

CHARLOTTE — Panthers quarterback Bryce Young didn't practice Wednesday, but he was on the practice field without a walking boot and was working out on the side.

Young left Sunday's win against the Jets in the third quarter and didn't return because of an ankle sprain.

Panthers coach Dave Canales declared him "day-to-day" on Monday and said Wednesday that Young did a little more than the day before, and they wanted to continue to add to his workload.

"He's pushing and he's trying and he's determined to make himself available for Sunday," Canales said.

During the portion of practice open to the media, Young worked out on the side with the players rehabbing injuries (including guard Robert Hunt), but didn't participate in any team or individual drills. He did take a few drops and throw a few passes when reporters were present.

If he can't go Sunday against the Bills, Andy Dalton is line to start.

They also have Hendon Hooker on the practice squad, and signed Mike White to the practice squad on Tuesday to have another quarterback on the property.

Young has only missed one game in his career because of injury, during Week 3 of his rookie year in 2023.
