InsideTheNumbers_PS2vsTexans

CHARLOTTE — A look inside the numbers and snap counts from Saturday's 20-3 loss to the Houston Texans.

  • Bryce Young played only seven snaps before the first team offense was done for the day. It's the fewest amount he's played in a game.
  • Running back Trevor Etienne had the most carries on the day, with seven total. It was Kayron Lynch-Adams who picked up the most yards though, finishing with 27 yards on five carries.
  • Rico Dowdle topped out at 18.47 miles per hour, the fastest speed of any Panthers player Saturday.
  • Brycen Tremayne finished as the leading receiver, with three catches on four targets for 46 yards.
  • Tremayne had a long of 23 yards, which was also the longest pass play of the day for the Panthers.
  • Safety Demani Richardson and linebacker Jacoby Windmon tied for the most tackles on defense, each with six total. Richardson had five solo tackles. Of Windom's six tackles, five were in the run game, the most of any Panthers' defender.
  • Christian Rozeboom notched the only sack of the day.
  • Five guys picked up at least one quarterback hurry, and Princely Umanmielen had two.
  • Corner Corey Thornton was tied with Shemar Bartholomew for most targets in the passing game, each seeing five balls. Thornton and Akayleb Evans allowed the lowest catch percentage of any defensive backs who saw two or more targets. Evans allowed no catches on two targets. Thornton allowed two catches on five targets, a 40% catch rate.
  • Derrick Brown played only three snaps, the fewest of any defensive player, but it was the first time he's played snaps in a game since Week 1 of the 2024 season when he suffered a meniscus tear.
  • Rookie Ryan Fitzgerald knocked in the Panthers only points of the day on a 52-yard field goal. His long, while at Florida State, was a 59-yarder in 2024.

  • Speaking of workloads, Demani Richardson had 43 snaps, more than any player on the roster. He's competing in that safety rotation with veteran Nick Scott (33) and rookie Lathan Ransom (32). All three will have significant special teams workloads as well.
  • With Nic Scourton driven home because of a collapsed lung and DJ Johnson not playing (undisclosed), there were a lot of snaps to make up for at outside linebacker. Princely Umanmielen got 40 of them, playing nearly 60 percent of the game.
Player Special Teams Snaps
JJ Jansen 7 (33%)
Sam Martin 7 (33%)
Ryan Fitzgerald 2 (10%)
Matthew Wright 2 (10%)
  • Special teams figures to be the area of the roster that could change the most in the next two weeks, but there are a number of guys who could figure heavily into coordinator Tracy Smith's plans. Thomas Incoom getting 12 snaps, along with Jacoby Windmon and Jon Rhattigan, is a signal they're among the guys Smith trusts out of this group.
  • The lack of point-scoring opportunities limited the special teams snaps, with kickers Ryan Fitzgerald and Matthew Wright each getting a field goal and a kickoff attempt. Fitzgerald hit a 52 and Wright missed a 55, while Wright landed his kickoff at the 4 and Fitzgerald landed his at the 11.
