- It was nice to see the Panthers give Harrison Butker the day off. The seventh-round kicker planned on skipping his graduation ceremony at Georgia Tech so he could be at Saturday's session. Because he got a good amount of kicks in Friday, he may well just been standing around on the sideline Saturday while his classmates walked. Thankfully, the Panthers intervened Friday night, encouraging Butker to attend his graduation and even giving him a ride to the airport. His competition with Graham Gano could wait. It's not every day you get a degree in industrial engineering.
- Like Friday, players didn't have to worry much about overheating. All three sessions featured unseasonably cool temperatures and a pretty good breeze.
- Because Stanford is on a quarter system, Christian McCaffrey has to disappear for the next five weeks. On Saturday, he looked like he did Friday - quicker than anyone else on the field. Coaches didn't give the first-round pick too many reps in team periods, but he zipped down the sideline after catching a couple of screen passes and also jumped in on punt and kickoff returns.
- Second-round receiver Curtis Samuel was among a group of guys who were limited with what head coach Ron Rivera called "lower back tightness." That stuff can often lead to hamstring issues, and Samuel flashed plenty on Friday.
- Cornerback Corn Elder returned after sitting out the bulk of Friday's second session with a sore knee. The fifth-rounder saw reps at nickel and on the outside.
- Tight end Eric Wallace, the former Aussie Rules Football player who spent some time on the practice squad last year, is still a work in progress. He had a chance to make one of Saturday's bigger plays, but the pass went off his fingertips.
- Wide receiver Keyarris Garrett didn't appear to create much separation between himself and the new guys. Garrett, who spent all of last season on the practice squad, had his best opportunity broken up by cornerback Montell Garner on a pass that eventually landed in the hands of fellow corner B.J. Lowery.
- Moments later, it looked like Lowery had another pick, but somehow, Fred Ross ended up with the ball. The undrafted free agent wideout ripped it away from Lowery, eliciting oohs and ahhs from the sideline.
- Steve Wilks' new title is defensive coordinator, but he's never too far away from the cornerbacks and safeties. The former secondary coach still looks at home back there.
- Jerricho Cotchery is as vocal as you'd expect. The new assistant receivers coach says plenty to his players, but the soft-spoken Cotchery certainly won't be a fire and brimstone kind of coach.
- The last guy off the field was Jameson Taylor, the young son of receivers coach Lance Taylor. Before Jameson ran around the field, the toddler jumped into the arms of McCaffrey for a Stanford-to-Charlotte reunion:
