CHARLOTTE – Safety Tre Boston, the Panthers' fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, has been waived. Carolina also waived fullback Devon Johnson, cornerback Lou Young and offensive tackles Jack Rodgers and Jordan Rigsbee.
Boston made a career-high 10 starts last season, posting 50 tackles, two interceptions, six passes defensed and two sacks. His career totals include 93 tackles and three interceptions in 42 games.
With Boston no longer in the mix, the Panthers turn to veteran safety Mike Adams, who signed as a free agent earlier this offseason. Adams – a Pro Bowler two of the last three seasons – has played 13 seasons, amassing 737 tackles and 25 interceptions with four different teams.
Counting the seven draft choices and five undrafted additions, Tuesday's cuts put Carolina's roster at 86 ahead of rookie minicamp. Last year, the Panthers signed six tryout players who attended rookie minicamp.
