CHARLOTTE - The Panthers have named Cameron Turner as assistant wide receivers coach.

Turner, a 2010 graduate of The Citadel who has an impressive coaching bloodline and already has NFL coaching experience, will assist Ricky Proehl with Carolina's wide receivers.

Turner spent the past two seasons as quarterback/wide receivers coach at Florida International where his father, Ron, is head coach. Turner's uncle, Norv, has been head coach for three different NFL teams. His cousin, Scott, has been an assistant for three NFL teams, including the Panthers from 2011-12.

Cameron Turner played quarterback and wide receiver at The Citadel from 2006-09 and then began his coaching career at his alma mater the next year. The Minnesota Vikings hired him as assistant to the head coach in 2011, a role he held for two seasons before heading to Florida International.

With the Vikings, Turner charted offensive and defensive plays, was responsible for clock management and managed the team's inactive list in addition to helping with day-to-day operations of the team.
