CHARLOTTE—The 2026 NFL draft is now just weeks away. Teams are updating their big board every day, welcoming in prospects for visits, and evaluating their current rosters every minute of every day. Only a select few in each building know what a club might do when the first round kicks off on April 23 in Pittsburgh. But between now and then, we will take a look at every position on the field and how some might even impact the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers currently have seven picks:

Rd. 1, No. 19 overall

Rd. 2, No. 51 overall

Rd. 3, No. 83 overall

Rd. 4, No. 119 overall

Rd. 5, No. 158 overall (from Minnesota)

Rd. 5, No. 159 overall

Rd. 6, No. 200 overall

First up is quarterbacks.

Position previews are an aggregation of the opinions and analyses of various draft websites and mock drafts. These are not rankings of a position, but rather a preview of names projected across all three days of the draft. Analysis by the Panthers editorial staff does not reflect the Panthers football staff and front office.

The Panthers have put all of their support behind quarterback Bryce Young the past year, particularly this offseason. General manager Dan Morgan told reporters after the season that the club would be exercising Young's fifth-year option, locking him until at least 2027 with a chance to work out a long-term extension.

The room added a young option at backup during free agency as well, bringing in former first-rounder Kenny Pickett. Subsequently, Andy Dalton was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. While the starting position at quarterback is set, there is always a chance to add depth and develop for the future.

Fernando Mendoza — Indiana

Mendoza is likely the No. 1 overall pick to the Las Vegas Raiders, but if Kevin Costner in Draft Day taught us anything, it's that there's always a chance for someone to fall in your lap, so let's get to know the presumed top guy in this year's quarterback class (and draft class overall).

Mendoza was this year's Heisman Trophy winner and led the Indiana Hoosiers to their first football national championship. He has a massive frame at 6-5, 225 pounds that can take a beating, and his fourth-quarter touchdown in the championship game became an instant classic.

He finished 2025 going 273-383 (71.5 completion percentage) for 3,536 yards, 41 touchdowns to six interceptions for a 129.4 quarterback rating and a 91.6 PFF grade.

Ty Simpson — Alabama

Some pundits consider the Bama signal caller a better long-term prospect than Mendoza, while others say no team has a first-round grade on the passer. It's created a lot of discourse around the second-team All-SEC player. He finished 2025 with 3,567 yards on 306-474 passing (64.6 completion percentage) with 28 touchdowns to five interceptions (102.5 QB rating).

Cade Klubnik — Clemson

The Tigers' passer started his career strong, earning MVP honors in the 2022 ACC Championship game. The former No. 1 overall passer coming out of high school set a Clemson career record for pass attempts and completions. He capped it off in 2025, going 257-394 (65.2 completion percentage) for 2,946 yards and 16 touchdowns to six interceptions. His best year came in 2024 with 3,642 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Garrett Nussmeier — LSU

The veteran QB is a legacy in the sport, the son of Doug Nussmeier (a former NFL QB and longtime college and league coach). He is the oldest of the top QB prospects at just over 24 years old. An abdominal injury kept him from finishing his final season in college, but in nine games, he posted 1,922 yards on 194-288 passing (67.4 completion percentage) with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions.

During a full season in 2024, Nussmeier had 4,043 yards on 336-525 passing with 29 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. He was third in FBS in completions that season.

Carson Beck — Miami

Beck spent five years with the Georgia Bulldogs, winning two national championships as the backup QB. During the 2024 season, Beck went 11-2 as a starter, leading the Bulldogs to the SEC Championship game, where he suffered an elbow injury that sidelined him for the rest of the season. He elected to transfer to Miami for his final year and finished second in the FBS with a 72.4 completion percentage.

Beck has had ups and downs but possesses unparalleled big-game experience.
