Best of Social: Bryce Young and Cam Newton recap 2025 season on 4th-and-1

SAN FRANCISCO — Bryce Young was a popular man on Radio Row this week. He spent three days floating from podcast to podcast, show to show, talking about his season with the Panthers, where Carolina can go from here, and making basketball shots for charity (the QB earned $10,000 for a charity of his choice by hitting the shot on the ESPN stage).

The Panthers quarterback finished his third season with a 63.6 completion percentage, for a career best 3,011 passing yards, 23 touchdowns to 11 interceptions, and added 216 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Before his time on Super Bowl week's Radio Row was over, though, there was one stop the quarterback had to make with his counterpart, Cam Newton.

The former MVP is hosting his 4th-and-1 podcast from Radio Row all week, and had Young on as a guest Thursday afternoon. The two covered a variety of topics, starting with how Young felt the 2025 season went for the Panthers and what it means for next year.

"It was just great for me, I really appreciated the growth. I feel like everyone has their journey, everyone has their path, and for me, I've been trying to be consistent through it," said Young.

"So this year, pushing forward, and making sure that we're growing. For it to end in that playoff game, I've got to give a big shoutout to the city, to the Carolinas, for coming out like that. That atmosphere, there's been ups and downs since I've been there, I've seen the stadium look a lot of different ways and that last game, just to feel the energy, you coming out there, setting the tone, that was a really cool moment for the Carolinas. And it was great, it was a lot of fun.

"But my favorite part is no one in that locker room, definitely myself included, no one was satisfied with that. That was a step, which was good, but that's not the end goal by any stretch of the means. We've got a lot more work to get there, to make sure we build off of it. But we're all excited to do that work…we have to make that the standard."

One of the most iconic Newton moments in his Panthers history is when he called out Clay Matthews at the line. The Green Bay Packers linebacker identified that the offense was lined up to run a wheel route, to which Newton responded, "You've been watching film too, huh? That's cool, watch this," and then threw a touchdown to Christian McCaffrey.

So it was fitting that when Newton asked Young how he wants to self-scout this offseason, Young mentioned getting to the line faster so he could have more time to diagnose and pick apart defenses.

"One thing I've looked at and we've been able to talk about in the building too, just in this offseason is that next step in command with the offense. We talked about it a little bit, and we got to that, especially towards the end of the season, some 'Hey, let's get on the line, let's get in a formation we know, and let's try to diagnose coverage so I can get us into that play. Let's have one options, let's have a call, and that be a base point so we can get to checks, we can get to adventurous looks.'

"Stuff like that is stuff I want to continue to grow in. Making sure (if) we get into plays that are bad plays, I have those answers, and it's more frequent than those double plays, alert stuff."

Offered Newton, "Dictating to the defense rather than the defense dictating to the offense."

"Exactly," responded Young. "So I think that's the next step of growth I'm excited for."

Young also took time to thank the city of Charlotte for letting him lead his own way as the face of their franchise—"I'm super grateful for the city, for everyone embracing me. That's become home for me."

And the n Newton sent the current Panthers quarterback off with a message.

"I think the best thing about your career is you've won everywhere you've been," Newton said. "What I would tell you is don't compromise, don't negotiate with what you deem—this is your team now. As long as this is your team, you have to set parameters with what you're going to stand for.

"I appreciate you, bro, keep rocking and rolling and doing it your way. Like I always tell you, they don't need Cam Newton reincarnated. They need Bryce Young to now take the torch and make it your own."
