Christian McCaffrey recalls his role in Castle Rock rescue

Many of you already know the story.

Back in March, 73-year-old Dan Smoker Sr. suffered a horrific fall while hiking Castle Rock with his grandson in Colorado, and Christian McCaffrey was among the group of people who were fortunately there to help save his life.

But as you'll see in the video above, there is so much more to this story.

McCaffrey and members of the Smoker family shared their perspectives on what happened, and you'll hear the harrowing 911 call the Panthers' running back placed with Smoker Sr. fighting for survival.

Thankfully, this story has a happy ending, and it gets even better for the Smokers, who were invited to attend Carolina's Week 3 home game against the Bengals. They've also been treated to a $1,500 shopping spree at Academy Sports + Outdoors to help gear up for the game.

"To see the way that family has responded has made me cherish just little things," McCaffrey said. "Just being present in the now. Life – you don't know what's going to happen, and that's part of the beauty of it. All you can control is your attitude and how well you live it.

"To me, that's what I've taken from it. And what an inspiring family to take it from."
