CHARLOTTE — The Panthers added some depth for Sunday's game at New England to compensate for a few injuries.
The team elevated offensive lineman Brandon Walton and outside linebacker Boogie Basham from the practice squad by standard elevation. Players can be elevated from the practice squad a maximum of three times in a season.
Walton was active last week following the injuries that landed Robert Hunt and Austin Corbett on injured reserve. He's a known commodity to the coaching staff, as run game coordinator Harold Goodwin and line coach Joe Gilbert worked with him in Tampa Bay before bringing him here last season.
Basham was a need this week with Patrick Jones II and D.J. Wonnum ruled out with injuries. A former second-round pick of the Bills out of Wake Forest, Basham signed here in January and was with the team throughout the offseason and training camp.
The Panthers still have rookie outside linebackers Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen available, along with DJ Johnson and Thomas Incoom.
They've already ruled out four players for Sunday's game because of injuries — Wonnum and Jones, wide receiver Xavier Legette, and tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders.
