When we last saw the Carolina Panthers' special teams units in action, Armanti Edwards was bursting through a hole on his way to a 69-yard punt return and Graham Gano was booting a 42-yard field goal to salt away a season-ending victory at New Orleans.
There's been plenty of work put in since the units were last in the spotlight, and there's more work to come at training camp in hopes of helping special teams pick up where they left off in 2012.
"The kickers and the long snapper had a pretty good spring, and we have some healthy competition," special teams coordinator Richard Rodgers said. "Overall, I think the specialists have put in some quality work, and I am excited to see how they will do in training camp."
Rodgers was elevated from assistant special teams coach midway through last season, and the Panthers improved from 31st to 14h in punt return average and from 18th to 10th in punt coverage under his watch. This season, he'll have veteran coach Bruce DeHaven assisting him.
