Martin punted six times for 276 yards in the Panthers' 13-6 win over the Jets on Sunday, with a long of 68-yards. He landed four of those punts inside the 20-yard line.

The two punts that weren't inside the 20 still landed at the 21-yard line and 28-yard line. One punt was downed, one went out of bounds, two were fair-caught, and two returned, for a total of 14 yards (average 7 yards per return).

Overall this season, Martin has 23 punts, averaging 47 yards per punt, and tied for fifth in the NFC with 10 landing inside the 20.

Martin joined the Panthers this offseason as a free agent, bringing veteran experience punting and holding in all kinds of weather and environments. This is his first player of the week honor while with Carolina. It comes one week after rookie kicker Ryan Fitzgerald (for whom Martin is the holder) was named the NFC special teams player of the week following the Panthers' Week 6 win over the Cowboys.

Originally drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2013, Martin has been named NFC special teams player of the week a couple of teams, early in his career. While with the Bills (from 2022-2024), Martin was tapped as the AFC special teams player of month for Weeks 14-18 in the 2023 season.

With Ryan Fitzgerald winning the award last week, this is the second team in franchise history in which two different Panthers have earned Special Teams Player of the Week in consecutive weeks (1997 — John Kasay in Week 2 and Ken Walter in Week 3).

Across the NFL, this is the first time a team's kicker and punter have earned the honor in consecutive weeks in the same season since Washington's Dustin Hopkins and Tress Way in Weeks 14-15, 2020.

With Fitzgerald in Week 6 and Rico Dowdle in Week 5, this is the second time in franchise history in which a Panther has won a Player of the Week award in three consecutive weeks (2015 — Cam Newton in Week 11, Luke Kuechly in Week 12 and Newton in Week 13). It is the first time in franchise history that three different players have won in three consecutive weeks.

Carolina is the first team in the NFL this season to have a Player of the Week winner in three consecutive weeks.
