CHARLOTTE — The Panthers made moves to shore up their defense on Wednesday, adding a few familiar faces.
They signed linebacker Krys Barnes to the active roster from the practice squad, and signed cornerback Robert Rochell off the Cowboys practice squad. They also added cornerback David Long Jr. to the practice squad.
To make room for them on the roster, they placed rookie cornerback Corey Thornton on injured reserve and had another spot for the week with safety Tre'von Moehrig on the reserve/suspended list.
Barnes started at linebacker last week, the third and final elevation allowed from the practice squad. The veteran linebacker has played in 71 career games with 31 starts, including his time with the Packers and Cardinals. Against the 49ers on Monday, he had a team-high 10 tackles.

The cornerbacks have history here, and with this coaching staff.
Rochell and Long were both here in 2023.
The 27-year-old Rochell was a fourth-round pick of the Rams in 2021, when defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and secondary coach Jonathan Cooley were there.
He was on the practice squad here in 2023 before he was signed by the Packers. He's also been with the Seahawks, Chiefs, and Cowboys. He's appeared in 50 games with five starts in his career.

The 27-year-old Long was here for a month in 2023 as well.
Originally a third-round pick from Michigan, Long spent his first four seasons with the Rams, and has also spent time with the Raiders, Packers, Giants, and Colts. He's appeared in 79 games, with 12 starts in his career.
They provide depth at cornerback, since Thornton was lost for the season to a broken fibula suffered on Monday night, and Jaycee Horn is in the concussion protocol.
