TAMPA, Fla. â Take a look inside some of the key numbers and stats, as well as the snap counts, from the Panthers' 16-14 loss to the Buccaneers on Saturday.
- Defensive tackle Derrick Brown finished with a game-high 13 total tackles. It set a new career record for Brown, who had previously recorded 12 tackles in Week 8 of the 2022 season.
- Brown's 13 tackles are the most tackles by a defensive lineman in a game this season.
- Receiver Tetairoa McMillan finished with a team high four catches for 85 yards. This brought his season total to 1,014, helping him pass the 1K yard mark as a rookie, as well as set a new franchise record for most receiving yards by a rookie in Panthers history. The previous record was held by Kelvin Benjamin with 1,008 yards.
- McMillan's total also moved him past the Bucs' Emeka Egbuka for most receptions and yardage by a rookie pass-catcher in the NFL this regular season.
- Quarterback Bryce Young completed 25-of-35 attempts (68.6 percent) for 266 yards and two touchdowns with a 98.0 rating, bringing his season passing total to 3,011 yards, a new career high. He becomes the sixth different Carolina quarterback to pass for over 3,000 yards in a season.
- Young's career-high 23 touchdown passes this season mark the seventh-most in a season in franchise history.
- Tight end Tommy Tremble had an eight-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, his second touchdown reception of the season. He is the third Carolina tight end to record multiple touchdowns in four straight seasons, joining Wesley Walls (seven straight from 1996-2002), and Greg Olsen (six from 2011-16).
- Linebacker Christian Rozeboom totaled eight tackles, two passes defensed and his third career interception (first of the season) and returned it for 20 yards setting up the Panthers first score of the game.
- Rozeboom is the first Panther since Jeremy Chinn in 2021 with over 100 tackles (122), an interception, forced fumble and fumble recovery in a season.
- Outside linebacker Nic Scourton had five tackles and a 0.5 sack, bringing his season total to 5.0. He is the third Carolina rookie to record five sacks, joining Julius Peppers (12.0 in 2002) and Brian Burns (7.5 in 2019).
- Scourton finished with three quarterback pressures on Saturday, bringing his season total to 31, and resetting the franchise rookie record for most QB pressures in a season that he set last week when he passed Brian Burns.
- Defensive end Cam Jackson blocked a 38-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, marking the first blocked field goal by the Panthers since CJ Henderson on Jan. 8, 2023 at New Orleans.
Snap Counts
Take a look at the snap counts and playtime percentage for the Panthers in Week 18 of the regular season against the Buccaneers.
| Player | Offensive Snaps | Special Teams Snaps |
|---|---|---|
| Austin Corbett | 51 (100%) | 3 (14%) |
| Damien Lewis | 51 (100%) | 3 (14%) |
| Ikem Ekwonu | 51 (100%) | 3 (14%) |
| Taylor Moton | 51 (100%) | 3 (14%) |
| Bryce Young | 51 (100%) | |
| Cade Mays | 51 (100%) | |
| Jalen Coker | 47 (92%) | |
| Tommy Tremble | 46 (90%) | 5 (23%) |
| Tetairoa McMillan | 45 (88%) | |
| Rico Dowdle | 27 (53%) | |
| Mitchell Evans | 23 (45%) | 8 (36%) |
| Chuba Hubbard | 23 (45%) | |
| Xavier Legette | 16 (31%) | 5 (23%) |
| Jimmy Horn | 16 (31%) | |
| Brycen Tremayne | 7 (15%) | 14 (64%) |
| Trevor Etienne | 3 (6%) | 8 (38%) |
| James Mitchell | 4 (8%) | 8 (36%) |
| Trevor Etienne | 1 (2%) | 7 (32%) |
- The most noticeable aspect of snap distribution is the decrease in Xavier Legette's workload. They spent much of the season with the top three playing roughly the same amount, but he got just 31 percent of the work, while Jalen Coker (92 percent) and Tetairoa McMillan (88 percent) were out there most of the time.
- On the other hand, Jimmy Horn Jr. continues to add to his portfolio, and played the same amount of snaps as Legette. The rookie wideout adds a different element to the game, and they're continuing to explore ways to use him.
- In what could be the final game of the year (unless the Falcons do them a favor), Rico Dowdle got 53 percent of the work, and Chuba Hubbard got 45 percent. Dowdle is a free agent, and it will be interesting to see how this develops next year.
| Player | Defensive Snaps | Special Teams Snaps |
|---|---|---|
| Mike Jackson | 67 (100%) | 4 (18%) |
| Nick Scott | 67 (100%) | 3 (14%) |
| Christian Rozeboom | 67 (100%) | |
| Tre'von Moehrig | 67 (100%) | |
| Jaycee Horn | 67 (100%) | |
| Derrick Brown | 63 (94%) | 6 (27%) |
| A'Shawn Robinson | 60 (90%) | 5 (23%) |
| Chau Smith-Wade | 56 (84%) | 7 (32%) |
| Nic Scourton | 56 (84%) | |
| DJ Wonnum | 54 (81%) | 3 (14%) |
| Krys Barnes | 25 (37%) | |
| Cam Jackson | 21 (31%) | 5 (23%) |
| Bobby Brown III | 18 (27%) | 2 (9%) |
| Lathan Ransom | 17 (25%) | 8 (36%) |
| Trevis Gipson | 15 (22%) | 16 (73%) |
| LaBryan Ray | 8 (12%) | 1 (5%) |
| Princely Umanmielen | 7 (10%) | 3 (14%) |
| Thomas Incoom | 2 (3%) | 19 (86%) |
- Derrick Brown weighs more than 300 pounds. Derrick Brown barely came off the field, and that's almost unheard of. His 63 snaps (94 percent) are nothing short of impressive, and A'Shawn Robinson's 60 aren't far behind. They're the foundation that the defense was built on.
- They spent most of the game in nickel, which meant Chau Smith-Wade (84 percent) got far more work than second inside linebacker Krys Barnes (37 percent).
- Cam Jackson had to play a bigger role than normal (31 percent), especially after Bobby Brown III left with a concussion.
| Player | Special Teams Snaps |
|---|---|
| Bam Martin-Scott | 19 (86%) |
| Isaiah Simmons | 19 (86%) |
| Maema Njongmeta | 14 (64%) |
| Akayleb Evans | 10 (45%) |
| Jacoby Windmon | 9 (41%) |
| JJ Jansen | 6 (27%) |
| Ryan Fitzgerald | 6 (27%) |
| Sam Martin | 6 (27%) |
| Nick Samac | 3 (14%) |
| Jake Curhan | 3 (14%) |
| David Long Jr. | 3 (14%) |
| Yosh Nijman | 3 (114%) |
- Isaiah Simmons is also a free agent, but he has an interesting future as a special teams player. His size-speed combination makes him a versatile piece in the kicking game.
- Rookie linebacker Bam Martin-Scott only played on special teams this week, but he has a future here. He's an athletic run-and-hit guy, and as he grows more familiar with the defense, he could have a bigger role there.
