EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — A look inside the numbers and snap counts from Sunday's 13-6 win over the New York Jets.

  • Wide receiver Xavier Legette led the offense with a career-best nine receptions for career-high 92 yards and scored his second touchdown of the season on a 3-yard pass from quarterback Bryce Young.
  • Legette also hauled in a 33-yard pass from Andy Dalton on a third down on the last drive of the game, to move the chains and effectively end the game.
  • The Panthers allowed just six points in the first road-win of the season, marking the fewest points allowed in a road game since Oct. of 2017 (versus Tampa Bay).
  • The longest run allowed by the defense was an 8-yard carry by running back Breece Hall on the Jets second offensive play of the game. This marked the Panthers third consecutive game without allowing a rush of more than 10 yards after surrendering a long of 6 yards versus Miami (two weeks ago) and a long of 6 yards versus Dallas (last week).
  • The above stat established a team record for the most consecutive games without allowing a rush of more than 10 yards in franchise history.
  • The NFL record for most consecutive games not allowing a rush of more than 10 yards is four, accomplished by San Francisco in 1995, New England in 2005 and Minnesota in 2008.
  • The Panthers defense recorded a season-high 6.0 sacks, marking the most sacks in a single game since posting the same number in a win against the Jets Week 1 of the 2021 season.
  • Through seven games, the Panthers have a minus-2 turnover ratio and are 2-0 when winning the turnover margin, 0-1 when tied and 2-2 when losing the turnover battle.
  • The Panthers defense generated season highs in total pressures (16), pressure rate (36.4 percent), and sacks (6).
The unit was especially effective when sending extra pass rushers, logging eight pressures and 3.0 sacks when blitzing Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor. The Panthers' top four edge rushers all generated multiple pressures against the Jets, led by rookie Nic Scourton, who finished with a team-high six pressures and 1.5 sacks. D.J. Wonnum (four), Princely Umanmielen (three), and Boogie Basham (two) each contributed multiple pressures as well.
  • Rookie outside linebacker Nic Scourton recorded a career-high 1.5 sacks against the Jets. He notched the first sack of his career as he helped defensive tackle Derrick Brown take down quarterback Justin Fields in the first quarter. The first solo sack of his career came in the third quarter on third-and-2 when he brought down QB Tyrod Taylor for a loss of 5 yards.
  • Scourton finished with two tackles (one solo), a tackle for a loss and a career-high three quarterback hits.
  • Brown led the team and matched his career high with 2.0 sacks. Brown finished with a season-high seven tackles, a quarterback hit and a career-high three passes defensed.
  • Brown has 3.0 sacks on the season, a team high.
  • Rookie OLB Princely Umanmielen recorded his second career sack on Taylor in the fourth quarter.
  • Cornerback Jaycee Horn recorded his first career multi-interception game, hauling in two. Horn picked off Taylor twice, first in the end zone for a touchback in the third quarter and then again in the fourth quarter on a deep ball intended for receiver Josh Reynolds.
  • Horn became the first Panthers player with two INTs in a single game since James Bradberry at Tampa Bay (Oct. 13, 2019).
  • Safety Tre'von Moehrig notched his first sack as a Panther, bringing down Fields in the second quarter for a loss of 7 yards. Moehrig finished with six tackles (three solo) and a quarterback hit.
  • Defensive end A'Shawn Robinson brought down Fields in the second quarter for a loss of 10 yards, his second sack this season. Robinson finished with four tackles (three solo) and a quarterback hit.
  • Corner Mike Jackson recorded a career-high three passes defensed.
  • Rookie RB Trevor Etienne logged a career-long 45-yard kickoff return and totaled a career-high 35 yards on three punt returns with a career-long 15-yard return in the second quarter.
  • His 45-yard kickoff return was the longest by a Panthers returner since Raheem Blackshear had a 52-yard return in Week 8 of the 2023 season.
  • Punter Sam Martin recorded a career high four punts inside the 20-yard line. His four punts downed inside the 20 equaled the seventh most in team history, previously accomplished 24 times, most recently by Johnny Hekker at New Orleans (Jan. 8, 2023).

Snap Counts

Take a look at the snap counts and playtime percentage for the Panthers in Week 7 of the regular season against the Jets.

Player Offensive Snaps Special Teams Snaps
Austin Corbett 71 (100%) 3 (13%)
Brady Christensen 71 (100%) 3 (13%)
Ikem Ekwonu 71 (100%) 3 (13%)

Cade Mays 71 (100%)
Tetairoa McMillan 62 (87%)
Xavier Legette 57 (80%)
Bryce Young 49 (69%)
Tommy Tremble 47 (66%) 3 (13%)
Chuba Hubbard 38 (54%) 1 (4%)
Rico Dowdle 33 (46%) 2 (9%)
Mitchell Evans 31 (44%) 3 (13%)
Ja'Tavion Sanders 26 (37%) 12 (52%)
Jalen Coker 26 (37%) 1 (4%)
Andy Dalton 22 (31%)
Brycen Tremayne 16 (23%) 17 (74%)
Jimmy Horn 15 (21%) 4 (17%)
Trevor Etienne 4 (6%) 7 (30%)
  • The running back distribution was about as even as you can make it. Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle alternated series through the game, and Hubbard got 38 snaps to Dowdle's 33 (54 percent to 46 percent) by virtue of the drives he participated in being longer. They still ran for 125, and when 125 is a bad day, that's a good day.
  • Jalen Coker was eased back into the action in his first game of the year, playing 37 percent of the snaps, taking on slightly more than the Hunter Renfrow role, since they still want to use Brycen Tremayne (16 snaps) and Jimmy Horn Jr. (15).
  • Ja'Tavion Sanders got the third-most snaps of the tight ends in his first game back (26), since Tommy Tremble (47) and Mitchell Evans (31) have established roles in the recent run of blocking-first multiple-TE packages.

LaBryan Ray 13 (21%)
Boogie Basham 10 (16%) 2 (9%)
Thomas Incoom 8 (13%) 20 (87%)
  • Tershawn Wharton came back after missing two games with a toe injury and played over half the snaps (57 percent), more than any lineman other than Derrick Brown (67 percent).
  • Princely Umanmielen came back from getting treated for a back injury, but still played a third of the snaps (20). That's toughness. While he was out, they used both Boogie Basham (10) and Thomas Incoom (eight), at times having the practice squader and the special teamer on the field together. That's trust.
  • Lathan Ransom played a bigger role this week, also playing a third of the snaps. His usage will likely vary week to week depending on matchups.
Player Special Teams Snaps
Claudin Cherelus 20 (87%)
Bam Martin-Scott 17 (74%)
Maema Njongmeta 17 (74%)
Akayleb Evans 14 (61%)

Corey Thornton 8 (35%)
Ryan Fitzgerald 7 (30%)
Demani Richardson 4 (17%)
Nick Samac 3 (13%)
Jake Curhan 3 (13%)
Yosh Nijman 3 (13%)
  • Speaking of defensive backs, neither Demani Richardson (four) nor Corey Thornton (eight) got any defensive work this week, but they're still active. (And with the way the season has gone, it's reasonable to think they'll be needed at some point).
  • In addition to having defensive responsibilities this week, Incoom still played his normal heavy role on special teams (20 snaps), tied with Claudin Cherelus for the team-high.
  • Jake Curhan has been here three weeks and played exactly 14 special teams snaps on field goal and extra point, including three on Sunday. He's also 3-0 as a Panther.
