LANDOVER, Md. — A look inside the numbers from Sunday's 40-7 loss against the Washington Commanders.
- Rookie tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders finished with six receptions on six targets, for 61 yards. It was a career high in receptions and yards.
- On the Panthers lone touchdown drive, quarterback Andy Dalton hit Sanders for a 29-yard reception. It is a career long for Sanders and was the Panthers longest offensive play of the day.
- Dalton came into Sunday averaging 224 yards in his starts, but finished with only 93 yards. It was the first time this season he has thrown for less than 100 yards. The previous low was 136.
- The Panthers totaled 43 offensive plays (23 rushing, 20 passing) at Washington on Sunday. This equaled the second fewest plays in team history, previously accomplished twice – at New Orleans (10/25/20) and versus Pittsburgh (12/18/22). The team record for fewest plays is 42 versus Cincinnati (9/26/99).
- Rookie's Trevin Wallace and Chau Smith-Wade helped lead the day on defense. Smith-Wade finished with a team and game high eight tackles. Wallace tied with Xavier Woods for a second high seven tackles.
- Pass-rusher Charles Harris sacked Marcus Mariota at the end of the first quarter, for a 4-yard loss. It is the second sack this season for Harris. This now marks the first time since the 2021 season that Harris has had two or more sacks. That year, he had 7.5 sacks while playing for the Detroit Lions.
- With just over two minutes to play in the first half, punter Johnny Hekker landed a punt just outside the end zone, for what looked like it would be a touchback. Instead, Lonnie Johnson cut around the ball, catching it on a bounce at the 1-yard line and sending it behind his back to save the touchback. It was eventually downed at the Washington 8-yard line. Versus the Chargers, the Panthers downed a punt at the 1-yard line, which Los Angeles ran out in one play till halftime. Save that play, this was the worst starting field position for an opponent this season off of a downed punt.

- It didn't take Marquis Haynes Sr. long to ramp up to a regular workload. After playing seven snaps in his debut last week against the Falcons, he played 34 snaps Sunday. Among the outside linebackers, only Charles Harris (48) played more. Shaq Lawson made his Panthers debut with 14 snaps.
- Safety/special teams ace Lonnie Johnson got his first defensive snaps of the year, in addition to taking his usual bulk of special teams snaps (92%). He also made an incredible athletic behind-the-back save on a punt.

- Always a bad sign when Eddy Piñeiro only has three snaps, as he was needed for just one extra point and two kickoffs.
- Rookie offensive lineman Jarrett Kingston made his NFL debut and got a snap on special teams.
