CHARLOTTE — Remember when your grandparents told you about taking a transistor radio to the ball game, so they could listen to the radio broadcast, adding a layer to the live experience?
Now you can do that with your smartphone, without the annoying delay. It's like sitting next Jake Delhomme and Luke Kuechly and the rest of the Panthers Radio Network, wherever you are in the stadium.
Thanks to a new ultra-low-latency streaming capability provided by StreamGuys, fans inside Bank of America Stadium will be able to listen to the broadcast live — and without the usual delays — on the Panthers app.
In the past, listening on the app or even a terrestrial radio broadcast included a lag of several seconds, which could put a fan behind the action.

Now, you can hear the insight of the Panthers Radio Network's play-by-play and analysts in real time, as the game is happening.
"StreamGuys is always impressed with the Panthers' drive to innovate and implement new technologies that put their fans first," StreamGuys head of sales Tim LaBelle said. "We're excited to support the Panthers' real-time play-by-play audio as the latest evolution in our strong relationship over the last six years."
That means, if you have a ticket to the game and the Panthers app (which you should already have, honestly), it's like sitting inside the radio booth for every game, because you're hearing the conversation as it's happening.
The technology will debut at tonight's preseason game against the Browns.
