CHARLOTTE — The big week continues for Tre'von Moehrig. The Panthers' safety has been named the NFC defensive player of the week, the league announced today.
He finished with an interception, five tackles, including two for loss, and two passes defended.
"I've always been confident in myself, and not try to put a leg on my abilities, but it was a team effort, man," bragged Moehrig of the defense around him. "I mean, I caught the ball, but all 11 affect the play. So, big shout out to the guys."
Moehrig is the third player in the NFL this season and the first defensive back with two tackles for loss, two passes defensed, and an interception in a single game. He was the only player in the NFL with two tackles for loss and an interception in Week 9.
The veteran who was signed as a free agent this past spring becomes the first Panther to win defensive player of the week since linebacker Frankie Luvu in Week 8 of the 2023 season. He is the first Carolina safety to earn the honor since Roman Harper in Week 17 of 2014. Moehrig is also just the fourth Carolina safety ever to win the award, joining Harper, Deon Grant (Week 3, 2002), and Pat Terrell (Week 11, 1996).
Along with running back Rico Dowdle (Offensive) in Week 5, kicker Ryan Fitzgerald (Special Teams) in Week 6, punter Sam Martin (Special Teams) in Week 7, and now Moehrig in Week 9, Carolina joins Tampa Bay as the only teams in the NFL to have four different players win a Player of the Week award this season.
The Panthers also join the 49ers as the only teams this season to have an Offensive Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week, and Special Teams Player of the Week.
This marks the first time the Panthers have had four Player of the Week winners in a season since 2017, when there were five (Damiere Byrd, Luke Kuechly, Cam Newton, Julius Peppers, Jonathan Stewart).
