CHARLOTTE — A look inside the numbers and snap counts from Friday's 30-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

  • Young completed a long pass to rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan on the opening play of the second drive, for a 30-yard completion. It was McMillan's first catch in an NFL game.
  • McMillan was the Panthers leading receiver yardage-wise. He finished with two catches for 43 yards.

  • With the offensive bodies depleted a bit by injury, some of the regulars had to play double duty. Yosh Nijman, Brady Christensen, Cade Mays, and Brandon Walton each played over half the snaps, as did Ja'Tyre Carter, who started with the ones in the absence of Damien Lewis.
  • The push to get wide receiver Jalen Coker more work is real, as he played more snaps than any receiver on the roster, also topping the 50 percent barrier.
  • Speaking of wideouts, many times a top-10 pick will only play with the ones, but Tetairoa McMillan actually got more work with Andy Dalton and the second team than he did Bryce Young and the ones.
  • They also took a longer look at running back Rico Dowdle, as he played 14 snaps to the six logged by starting running back and team leader Chuba Hubbard.

  • They have some young reserve players they're clearly trying to get a longer look at. Rookie inside linebacker Bam Martin-Scott led the way with 35 snaps on defense, followed by Thomas Incoom (34) and Corey Thornton (33). All three could factor in the plans when it's time to cut to 53.
  • Third-rounder Princely Umanmielen (23) played a good bit more than second-rounder Nic Scourton (16) as they worked the rookie pass-rushers in deeper into the game.
  • Defensive line is always a rotation game, and Bobby Brown III started and played 21 snaps, more than the 20 combined by Tershawn Wharton (11) and A'Shawn Robinson (9).
  • English exchange student Mapalo Mwansa got some work on defense. He initially tried out as a pass-rusher at the IPP academy, but his lack of size necessitated his move inside. His speed is elite at his position, but he's been playing football for months against guys who have been doing it for years.

— The Panthers are seriously searching for contributors on special teams, and it doesn't take a deep dive into the numbers to see who could stand out there. Rookie safeties Isaac Gifford and Jack Henderson (17), known commodity Jon Rhattigan (13), wide receiver Brycen Tremayne (12), Martin-Scott (11), defensive back Trevian Thomas (11), Incoom (10), and linebacker Krys Barnes (10) all played double-digit snaps in the kicking game.

The search continues, and will continue for weeks.

— Rookie kicker Ryan Fitzgerald hit his field goal attempt, while Matthew Wright hit an extra point in the kicking competition, as they split the five snaps. Ideally, there would be more than five snaps for kickers, since that means more points.
