Panthers add offensive line depth for home opener against Falcons

RosterMove

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers made a move Saturday to add depth to the offensive line for the home opener.

The team activated practice squad guard Brandon Walton from the practice squad by standard elevation.

Practice squad players can be elevated three times in a season before they have to be added to the active roster to be able to play again.

Walton's a known commodity, having been with coaches Joe Gilbert and Harold Goodwin in Tampa Bay, and spending last year on the Panthers' practice squad. He was with the team throughout the offseason and camp. Last year, he was active for one game, also against the Falcons here.

The Panthers are down to eight offensive linemen on the 53-man roster after placing Robert Hunt and Austin Corbett on injured reserve this week and signing center Nick Samac off the Ravens' practice squad. Since Samac just arrived on Tuesday, bringing Walton up for depth purposes was a need.

The Panthers are going to start Cade Mays at center and Chandler Zavala at right guard, and also have five-position backup Brady Christensen and tackle Yosh Nijman as well.
