Now that the 2025 season is in the books and the preparations for the 2026 offseason are well underway, we're going to take a look at where the Panthers stand for the future at each position. We'll cover one position group per day through the next two weeks, offering a look at where things stand in advance of free agency and the draft. The series started Monday with a look at the offensive line, followed by the running backs on Tuesday.

CHARLOTTE — There were hints of it in 2024. But last season, the Panthers realized they had a guy they could trust in key situations.

Bryce Young led six game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime last year, giving him 12 in his career.

That's the most in the league since 2023 when he was drafted, and the second-most for any player under the age of 25 (Justin Herbert has 13).

That kind of late-game clutch play contributed to the general vibe about Young and the offense as a whole, as they showed a certain resilience all year (bouncing back from losses became a specialty).

"It's something that gives Bryce the ability in the flow of the game. What I've noticed about Bryce is he doesn't get hung up on things that happen; he moves on, and that's a really special trait to have," Panthers head coach Dave Canales said. "It's really important for the big picture, especially when you're standing in front of the group, that this drive is going to be a touchdown drive, this next play is going to be a big one.

"To have that kind of salesmanship, it's really important for the quarterback to have that, and I see Bryce just step into the huddle with confidence every single play as if this is the best play that coach has ever called, you know, and, and it's great to have that support, but it does give the guys a lot of confidence going into it."

UNDER CONTRACT FOR 2026: Bryce Young (2027), Andy Dalton (2026).

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS: None.

WHAT WENT RIGHT IN 2025

Young took another step in his development and helped the Panthers break their playoff drought, bringing the first postseason home game to Bank of America Stadium since the 2015 season.

He also established career highs in passing yards (3,011), touchdown passes (23), and passer rating (87.8), while also leading the team to a career-high eight wins as a starter.

He also unlocked head coach Dave Canales' proclivity for going for fourth downs by being really good at them.

He dropped back to pass 25 times on fourth down, the third-highest total in the league. He completed 75 percent of those passes, and his passer rating on fourth down (156.3) was the highest in the league among quarterbacks with at least 10 attempts.

Along with the comeback wins, there's a personality developing for Young and his offense.

NEXT STEPS FOR 2026

General manager Dan Morgan has already announced that they're picking up Young's fifth-year option for 2027. That's worth an estimated $26.5 million, which sits around the top of the bottom third of the league in quarterback contract value. So financially, it's a no-brainer.

But it also creates some security, knowing he's locked in for the next two years to grow the offense around Tetairoa McMillan, Jalen Coker, and the rest of the passing game.

Veteran backup Andy Dalton is also under contract for another year. The 38-year-old started one game last year against Buffalo, and it wasn't his best effort after cracking his thumb on his throwing hand early in the game.

He's important for Young as well as the young receiving core, but Morgan said he'd consider adding a younger developmental quarterback at some point. They had Hendon Hooker here on the practice squad part of last year, but let him go in favor of veteran Mike White in midseason. White's contract expired, so they'll add someone for the offseason at some point.

But after years of constant change, the Panthers have some stability at the position, which is a benefit.
