CHARLOTTE — Ryan Fitzgerald is quickly developing a reputation.
The undrafted rookie from Florida State won the Panthers kicking job in training camp, won Sunday's game with a last-second field goal, and won the NFC special teams player of the week award for Week 6 to cap it off.
Fitzgerald's walk-off game-winner from 33 yards allowed the Panthers to seal the 30-27 win over the Cowboys, and helped him build on a reputation for being cool in tense situations.
"I mean, he's got nerves of steel, man," tight end Tommy Tremble said of Fitzgerald. "And we believe every single time he goes out there, he's going to make the kick.
"And so him going out there icing the game, awesome. I'm really happy for him."
He's 10-of-11 on field goals this season, including a long of 57 against the Falcons earlier this year. He also hit a 55-yarder earlier against the Cowboys, which gave them the confidence that a 33-yarder to win the game was money. For the day, he was 3-of-3 on both field goals and extra points.
That last field goal also helped the Panthers get to .500 for the first time since 2021, and Fitzgerald has found a group of people around him with like minds.
"Yeah, it's awesome; I mean, it's a lot of fun," he said. "I mean, I'm so competitive in nature and, just to be on a team that has that drive and that fight regardless of the score, regardless of the outcome, that these guys want to go to work, I'm so excited to be a part of that."

He's still new here, but that 90.909 percent mark on field goals puts him in good company as well. You need 100 field goal attempts to be considered for the all-time list, but that pace would put him second on the list, behind leader Cameron Dicker (93.340 percent) and ahead of second-place Justin Tucker (89.103).
"I think I have to continue to prove myself," Fitzgerald said Sunday. "I mean, I haven't made it just because you know of one solid game, and every week I've got to keep finding new ways to get better and help this team. Offense did a great job giving me a chip shot, and at that point I just need to do my job. JJ and Sam did theirs, a great snap, great hold, protection up front was great all game, so I just got to do my job at that point."
